Surely many of us associate a sideboard or sideboard with grandma's kitchen. And if suddenly you were the heir of the subject, do not rush to throw it away. After all, it can be the highlight of the kitchen interior, which fills the atmosphere with warmth and home comfort and, of course, pleasant memories associated with my grandmother's house. The cupboards and sideboards in modern styles look no less impressive.

What is a buffet?

In fact, this is a cabinet where dishes, various cutlery, textiles and some products are stored. The buffet can be not only an element of the kitchen, but also a living room, especially in modern houses. In the post-Soviet era, a buffet with transparent glasses was called a sideboard. In the traditional sense, this piece of furniture has the following design:

  • in the lower part there is a storage system in the form of a drawer with drawers or doors with different patterns and colors;
  • at the top - traditional open shelves, it is possible to place cabinets, the doors of which are often decorated with glass inserts;

  • between these two elements, as a rule, there is free space, and the surface of the cabinets at the top of the cupboard can also serve as a tabletop or an additional plane to accommodate beautiful decorative objects.

Modern design of buffets rarely shows frilly decorative, but it fits perfectly into many styles - minimalism, country, eco, modern, hi-tech.

Today there are models on sale without a clear division into parts, for example, in many of them the top fits snugly to the bottom, and the empty space in the middle is completely absent.

There are budget options with glass inserts, reminiscent of a regular shop window.

As for the size of the buffet, there are no standards or restrictions. It all depends on the height of the ceilings, the volume of the kitchen and personal preferences. Manufacturers offer a lot of options - from narrow single-leaf products, to wide with a large number of doors. Filling can also be the most diverse: all kinds of separators and other elements not only fulfill a functional role, but also save free space.

The advantages of the buffet in the kitchen

  • most often there are traditional buffets made of noble, environmentally friendly wood;
  • large capacity allows you to store them in addition to kitchen utensils, decorative dishes and home textiles;
  • possibility of use in various styles to give the room a special elegance, individuality and nobility.

Despite all the above advantages, it is important to pay attention to some of the nuances of using this attribute in the interior:

  • More harmoniously, the buffet will look like an independent object in the kitchen, so additional space should be allocated for its optimal placement. A luxurious sideboard will obsessively look in a small kitchen or living room, although there are more concise compact designs for sale;
  • the price of a high-quality product made of natural material will be quite high. On the other hand, the angular design for the kitchen is a more economical, compact and quite nice option that fits into the standard interior.

Varieties of buffets

  • closed type - suggests the presence of shelves, covered by doors. Such a buffet can have a small window in which objects on the shelves are partially visible;

  • open type - there is no door in such products. An interesting design solution can be an open tabletop, placed between the upper and lower tiers;

  • Classic view of the buffet, providing for the presence of 3 levels with an open niche, shelves and doors.

Types of materials used for the manufacture of canteens

1. Valuable breeds of a natural tree. They are famous for their luxurious appearance and durability. As a rule, products from wood massif have front carved elements. However, the cost of such buffets is quite impressive. In addition, the likelihood of a change in structure and form under the influence of external factors is not excluded, because of which the material may lose its former color, swell or dry. Despite this, wood is a leader in the production of such products, and the options for its processing weight.

2. MDF and chipboard. This raw material has a high demand in the market, as it is in the affordable price segment for most buyers. At the same time, there are many ways of its processing, allowing objects to look “antique” or imitate various tree species. In this sense, the interior will look very elegant and attractive.

These materials are most often used for the manufacture of cupboards and cupboards, but it is also often possible to come across structures made of plastic or metal.

Buffet on the background of different styles

The ideal option for the classics is a buffet made from natural wood, equipped with carved facades. This attribute will add to your kitchen a touch of elegant aristocracy and charm.

A white sideboard with carved decoration is what is needed to create the French atmosphere of Provence. An important role is played here by beautiful fittings with elegant lines (for example, door handles).

Colorful country successfully reflects the individuality of the room. This type of construction is often varnished, and the exterior aesthetics of the decor is very simple: there are no carved details, and the configuration of the buffet assumes a large number of cabinets and shelves.

In modern style use products made of particleboard and MDF. Such designs are equipped with matte elements and provide a diverse palette of colors. In modern style there is no place for pretentiousness - the laconic buffet here is at the maximum functional.

As you can see, many variations of the design of the buffet allow you to choose a model that fits perfectly with any style. Such a product in the kitchen enhances the interior, making it more spectacular, elegant, original.
