Young star of Russian figure skating Evgenia Medvedev is increasingly appearing in the pages of the press. She consistently submits pedestal for the pedestal. In the list of her victories there are numerous gold and bronze medals, several titles of the championships of Russia, Europe and the world. She also has a world record in the team figure skating tournament.
The girl can definitely be called one of the most promising young athletes of our time and the hope of Russian figure skating. In 2016, the figure skater was on the ninth line in the ranking of the International Skating Union. But a year later she became the first in it.
Start a successful career
The talented girl was born in the family of businessman Arman Babasyan. It happened in 1999 on November 19th. Born in an Armenian family, Evgenia Armanovna will in the future take the surname of her maternal grandmother, Medvedev.
The mother of the girl in her youth gave a lot of time and energy to figure skating. Therefore, the girl was given it to this sport.Moreover, the little girl herself loved to watch the skaters on TV. Her idol was Evgeni Plushenko.
Her first coach, Lyubov Yakovleva, got a girl at 3 years old. After the coach went on maternity leave, little Eugene was sent to Elena Selivanova. Eugene began to show promise at an early age. Long-term workouts replaced simple children's games. But the little girl did not get upset, demonstrating the will power that was remarkable for her age. The only thing that upset the girl was the lack of time for her hobby - drawing.
At the age of eight, Zhenya came under the care of the remarkable teacher Eteri Georgievna Tutberidze. She also coached no less talented Yulia Lipnitskaya. At this stage, the disclosure of talent Medvedeva, as a skater. Soon the girl realized the seriousness of her occupation and, according to her, at that moment her childhood was over. Already at the age of 12, a young athlete joined the Russian national team. She debuted brilliantly at the Junior Grand Prix, where she won with 169.52 points. In those competitions in Latvia, Evgenia surpassed Maria Sotskovu and Karen Shen from America.
The tight schedule of training and competition did not prevent the girl to keep up at school in all subjects. Evgenia notes that history and biology were her favorite subjects. Successes in sports and in school have led the heroine to the idea of graduating from school as an external student.
Victory in sports
After the first bright victory in Latvia, the girl repeated her triumph in Poland with a score of 179.96 points. After that, in heavy and prestigious competitions in Japan, she won bronze. In 2014, at the Championship of Russia, she got only 7th place among adult athletes, and among juniors - 4. In the same year, she took 2nd place in the Russian Cup final
In 2014 and 2015, Medvedev received gold medals at the championships in Barcelona and Tallinn. The Junior Grand Prix took place here. After that, Evgenia became a bronze medalist at the Championship of Russia - 2015. In the same year, moving into the adult category, she won gold at the Ondrej Nepela Memorial competition in Bratislava. Immediately after that, another gold fell from her adult league in Milwaukee to her piggy bank.
Then came a stunning success in Barcelona and a cherished victory at the Russian Championship.
In February 2016, the heroine got gold at the European Championships. A month later, there was a victory at the Grand Prix, as well as the coveted champion title at the World Championships in Boston, which opened on March 23, 2016. Here Medvedev set a new world record in single skating. The record score for the program was 223.86 in total for the short and random program.
Until the end of 2016, Eugenia improved her record three times. She was also a prize-winner of tournaments in Canada, Paris, Marseilles, Russia. At the beginning of 2017, the young athlete has twice been the champion of Europe. This year, she added to her victories the title of world champion at the World Cup in Finland. In April 2017, the athlete set a new world record. It happened at the World Team Championship in Tokyo.
Olympiad 2018
Such an abundance of victories and awards allowed figure skating fans to believe that Yevgeny Medvedev will bring gold to Russia at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The scandal around doping has reduced the Russian team to a minimum. The women's team of figure skaters consisted of only three people:
- Evgenia Medvedeva;
- Alina Zagitova;
- Maria Sotskova.
This Olympiad was the first in the life of a young figure skater. As expected, she spoke brilliantly. The girl set a new world record in the short program, for which she received 81.06 points. Together with the victory of Alina Zagitova in the free program, this result brought the team silver. Medvedev immediately broke his record, receiving 81.61 points for an arbitrary program. Her record was immediately beaten by her teammate Alina Zagitova. The girl received 82.92 points. In any case, the highest places on the pedestal were taken by representatives of the Russian team: Zagitova with gold and Medvedev with silver.
