Until New Year 2019, there are quite a few. October and November will pass unnoticed, and in the December turmoil the days fly much faster than usual. Russians have long been accustomed to the fact that as a New Year's gift they are presented with whole 10 days of carefree rest, which they have the right to spend on feasts, entertainment, meetings with friends or relatives. Now is the time to take care of the upcoming mini-vacation, to plan and implement the plans that we dreamed of throughout the year.
When we rest in January 2019
Traditionally, the first month of the year begins with long New Year holidays and 2019 will not be an exception for Russians. The duration of the New Year’s holiday is annually developed by the Ministry of Labor of Russia in a special decree indicating holidays and weekdays for the coming year.
We don’t yet have to talk about exact dates for weekends and working days, since Russia is one of the few countries where the practice of transferring holidays is popular. Therefore, Russians, accustomed to the 5-day working week, may well expect several periods of so-called long weekends with a duration of 3 to 5 days.
In preparing the New Year’s holiday calendar, the Ministry of Labor tried not to dilute a few days off with a 1-day working day, which previously caused a lot of discontent among workers. The project of holidays for the year 2019 has been developed taking into account the correct balance of working and weekends, giving employees the opportunity to plan trips, visits to relatives and other pleasant events.
In 2019, Russians expect a long vacation. By the decision of the Ministry of Labor of Russia, a few extra days were added to the traditional New Year's holidays. This decision was unanimously supported by the Government of the Russian Federation.
New Year's holidays 2019 in Russia
In 2019, Russians can count on 10 days of the New Year holidays. We will rest on December 30, and we will have to go to work only on January 9th. The result is 10 legal non-working days. A bonus from the 10th day will be the Saturday of the 29th, which in most offices will traditionally become a shorter working day.
And that's not all "gifts" from the upcoming 2019. Thanks to the New Year's holiday in 2019, we get another 3 continuous weekends in March - from 8 to 10 number. This is due to the fact that holidays on January 5 and 6 fall on non-working days - Saturday and Sunday - and it was decided to transfer them to spring holidays.
New Year holidays in schools in 2019
The schedule of weekends in schools is not less important information that parents should know on the eve of the New Year. After all, most family events, vacations and trips adapt to school weekends.
The duration of the Christmas holidays in each school varies depending on the system of education - in quarters, modules, trimesters, bimestras. In each training system, vacations and the learning process begin at different times, which is not always convenient for parents.
The decision on which system to study is left to the leadership of the school, so parents can only listen to the school schedule.
With regards to the New Year holidays 2019, only the school administration can provide reliable information. The duration of the New Year holidays and holidays is developed by them on the basis of the recommendation of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. The school has the right to adjust the proposed schedule, depending on the system of education.
Schoolchildren and their parents can be advised to look for official information about the duration of the New Year holidays on the school website, which should be published there no later than September.

Should I make the New Year holidays shorter?
The initiative that New Year's holidays should be shortened rises annually on the eve of the New Year. People's deputies propose for consideration a bill that provides only 2 days off - December 31 and January 1. Such an initiative was submitted to the State Duma about six months ago.
The logic of the deputies on the one hand is simple and clear: every day, the New Year “idle time” costs the economy of the country tens of billions of rubles. Yes, and the health of Russians so prolonged holidays adversely affect, because our people do not think of rest in a company without alcoholic beverages.
This year, the bill to reduce the New Year holidays was once again rejected. They don’t exactly want to rest less than they are used to and most of them don’t support such an initiative. According to the results of independent polls, only 20% of Russians support short holidays, while 80% are categorically against the reduction of the New Year holidays.
New Year is without exaggeration the main holiday for the majority of Russians. Long holidays, New Year celebrations, gifts and feasts - all this contributes to a pleasant pastime, joyful meetings and fulfillment of the most cherished desires. Happy New Year!
