Types of jobs

Woodcarving does not provide for precise classification - a modern style can combine several ways to process a tree manually at the same time. But there are still several major varieties.

Through thread

It is also called a cut or openwork thread, when the wood and the background are completely removed along the borders of the pattern. It happens simple and tracery. The edges of the patterns are processed. This method is used in the manufacture of doors, covers, frames and decorative parts.

Flat thread

Characterized by the fact that the main thing here is a flat background, while the carved drawings themselves are deepened into it. There are several varieties of this thread:

  • outline - a pattern on a flat basis is obtained with the help of grooves-grooves, which are triangular or semicircular;

  • bracket - the ornament is created by semicircular notches-brackets on a flat background;
  • geometric (triangular, triangular) - here are used two types of elements: a triangular pyramid, recessed inside, and pegs. To finish off the desired effect, use special knives - jambs. Thanks to the pyramids and pegs, at different angles and at different distances, it is possible to obtain patterns in the form of inetres geometric figures: honeycombs, rhombuses, floats, chains, lights, etc .;

  • black-lacquered carving - here the flat base, covered with black lacquer or paint, acts as a background. The pattern is created using grooves. It turns out an unusual game of light and shadow due to the different depth and profile of the grooves, and the black background perfectly emphasizes the contrasting plot.

Important! Very dry air causes cracking of wood, therefore, in order to maintain the original appearance of the thread, it is necessary to maintain an optimum level of humidity in the room, up to the purchase of a humidifier.

Relief carving

All elements of embossed carving are placed either above, or on the same level with the background surface. It is considered the most difficult type of thread. In this technique, various convex plots and drawings are created: emblems, emblems, animals, etc. Moreover, the play of light and shade has a significant role in the sophistication of the finished product.

House thread

Actively used for decorative decoration of the exterior of houses with the help of various ornaments and shapes on wooden elements. This method can decorate any protruding and overhead parts of the facades of houses: curtain rods, platbands, balusters, roof plowshares, porch pillars.

Features of the application in the interior

Furniture and furnishings made in this technique are most often used in classical styles (Baroque, Empire, Victorian), adding rooms of pomp, celebration and special charm.

Interiors in ethno styles (African, Japanese, Moroccan) require individual techniques and patterns for carving, which ideally emphasize national peculiarities.
