Among the popular dramas of this year there are both foreign and domestic films. Each of them carries a powerful emotional message to the viewer. Among the proposed films there are dramas with a different bias: social, religious, military, historical and others.
“Anna Karenina. The History of Vronsky
Eminent Russian film director Karen Shakhnazarov filmed the famous story of a woman experiencing a deep personal drama. The plot unfolds against the background of the Russian-Japanese war. The events take place in Manchuria, where a military hospital was located during the retreat. Here lies a wounded officer, Count Vronsky. By coincidence, his doctor operates Sergei Karenin. The son of the deceased Anna recognizes the count and asks him to tell the details of the story that ruined his mother. Vronsky's story takes the viewer to a distant past, in which the events described by the author took place.
Karen Shakhnazarov offered a rather approximate interpretation of the novel to the audience.In the film there are partly storylines from Vikentiy Veresaev's stories.
"Dunker"
British and allied forces were surrounded by enemy forces. It takes place near the town of Dunker, located on the coast. It was decided to evacuate the soldiers by sea. The plot tells about the rescue of several hundred soldiers in the course of the operation called “Dynamo”.
Films collected at the box office a significant amount. This military drama will appeal to those who love movies about the heroic deeds of ordinary soldiers and officers.
"Gifted"
The story tells about a girl gifted with a special talent in mathematics. Dar inherited her from her mother, whom he brought only misfortunes. As a result, the girl's mother committed suicide. The brother of the unfortunate woman and the guardian of her daughter want to save the child from the fate of the mother and takes her to a small town where the girl is studying in a regular school. But the grandmother of the baby is categorically against such upbringing. She wants to raise a girl as well as she raised her daughter - the mother of a gifted child.
Critics drama seemed flat. It clearly stands out a positive hero and his opponent with his evil intentions. However, the viewer is immediately determined by whom he sympathizes with and desperately supports Frank and the ward he cares for Mary.
"The wife of the zookeeper"
Jan and Antonina Zhabinsky are not just fictional film characters. These are very real people who, risking their lives, saved more than 300 people from the Holocaust. The plot of the picture is tied in 1939, when the Nazi troops entered Warsaw. Heroes care for the zoo. The Germans sell valuable animals, the rest are destroyed. The couple suggests that the Nazis organize a pig farm for them in the deserted zoo and, under the guise of scraps for pigs, take women and children out of the ghettos. Spouses hide Jews in their home and in the zoo.
The director failed to touch the hearts of the people. The picture turned out to be just dry information about how the Zhabinsky spouses performed their feat. The drama of the characters does not cause those feelings that are usually affected by similar stories. The name, accentuated on Zhabinsky's wife, does not justify itself, since the spouses equally participated in the event. That is why this film gives the impression of a purely feminist film, designed for a certain category of viewers.
"Dislike"
Another drama of a successful Russian director Zvyagintsev, demonstrates the vices of mankind. A married couple, having lived together for 12 years, cannot bear each other. Unfortunately, in this conflict there is a third party - the common son Alyosha. He accidentally learns that upon parting, I plan to transfer him to an orphanage and leave the house. "Loving" parents only after 2 days notice the loss of the child. Police and public organizations are in no hurry to help in the search. Such an attitude of relatives and other adults can be a mortal danger for the boy.
The picture turned out deep and soulful. This is another creation of a successful director, which Russian film culture can be proud of. The story tells about the unfortunate people who do not know how to love. And this dislike makes unhappy people around them. We can say that the picture is impeccable, which is complemented by great music.
“On the other side of hope”
The story is about a refugee from Syria Kaleda, who secretly sneaks onto a ship and ends up in Helsinki. Here he meets a man who is going to invest in the restaurant business. The story of Kaleda impresses a new acquaintance, and he decides to help the refugee as much as he can.
The film was produced by the legendary Aki Kaurismäki. The results of the work exceeded all expectations. The film won an award at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival.
"Battle of the sexes"
Billie Jean King - eminent tennis player with a long track record. At some stage of her career, she becomes offended that women in her sport are underestimated, which affects the fees for tournaments. According to the heroine, women's matches are no less spectacular than men's. She decides to create her community and host a tournament.At the same time, formerly famous tennis player Bobby Riggs, who has already lost his former popularity, comes up with a move to return to the tabloids. He states that he will easily beat any tennis player, despite the impressive difference in age. After the match is lost by one of the strongest rivals Billie Jean, the heroine realizes that she can not show weakness. This situation unfolds against the background of the heroine's personal feelings about her cooling toward her husband and the inexplicable burden to the hairdresser.
The film focuses on one of the real tennis players, who has achieved some success in the fight for gender equality. The picture condemns sexual discrimination, and also indicates that in 1970, same-sex lovers were forced to hide their feelings from others. The film has become another proclamation on the rights of gays and lesbians.
"Miracle"
The boy, who was born with an anomaly, as a result of numerous operations, got a face after all. But his appearance attracts the attention of others. This forced the child's parents to train the boy at home. Only in Halloween, little Auggie could have been himself, since under the costume he could not see his defects. At the age of 10, parents are forced to send a child to school so that he learns to communicate in society. The film was shot as a reminder for "unusual" children that any problems can be solved in one way or another. If initially the picture was conceived as a children's film, then in the end it turned out quite an adult film, filled with moralizing for society.
"Dinner"
Two couples gather for dinner at a restaurant to discuss a difficult problem. Their children violated the law, which could lead to their transfer to court. This situation will bring both families trouble and undermine the well-established life. A serious battle develops at the table, the result of which should be the only right decision.
The director has collected a bunch of great actors. But even they could not make a promising plot hit film. Excessive theatricality did not go to the benefit of the film. Scenes of the picture turned out ragged and not consistent. It will be especially difficult to watch a picture of those who are familiar with the original source of the plot - the novel “Dinner” by Hermann Koch.
"Shards"
The plot is placed in the scenery of the hotel restaurant. The main character listens to her husband claims about smoking in the car and her other unacceptable acts. After the husband leaves, a foreign man sits down to the woman, assuring that she has long been acquainted with the heroine. She, in turn, is sure that she sees the hero for the first time.
What is happening is similar to a dream where events develop in a spiral. Such a course of the plot is intended to fascinate the viewer, dragging him into the curiosity of curiosity. Will the empty monotonous, but quite prosperous life of the heroine change if she leads an affair with a new man? There is no answer to this question ...
